9th Meeting of the Standing Committee of Southern Zonal Council at Thiruvananthapuram

PM Modi inaugurates the 11th meeting of the Inter State Council in New Delhi

The 9th meeting of the Standing Committee of Southern Zonal Council was held at Thiruvananthapuram on 14th October, 2016 under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala. Secretary, Inter State Council Secretariat, Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka and other senior officers of member States and concerned Ministries/Departments of Government of India participated in the meeting.

The Standing Committee scrutinized the issues sponsored by the State Governments and Union Ministries for the next meeting of the Southern Zonal Council. It also deliberated on the action taken on the decisions taken in the previous meeting of the Southern Zonal Council held at Hyderabad on 12.12.2015. The issues discussed in the meeting included matters relating to fisheries/security to fishermen, Extension of High Speed Rail Corridor between Thiruvananthapuram and Mangalore upto Udupi, Introduction of Peninsular Tourism Trains in Southern Zone, Need for coordinated and uniform approach in grant of industrial incentives, finalisation of Inter State Reciprocal Transport Agreement, The New Road Transport and Road Safety Bill, 2014, Uniformity in allocation of funds in proportion of population of SC/ST for scholarship for all the courses, supply of Krishna river water to augment the drinking water supply to Chennai city, prescription of profession tax ceiling by Government of India, Prevention and control of communicable diseases, deployment of Central Para Military Forces and regular Inter-State Coordination meetings with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka for curbing smuggling of Red Sanders, Single Window System for Public Grievances, Pension and pensioners’ related matters, Scheme for Implementation of Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995, Promotion of oilseeds and oil palm cultivation to augment availability of vegetable oils etc.
